Popularity of Soccer starting to gain steam in Europe

As evidenced by the 80,000-plus fans who appeared at the Bernabeu for Cristiano Ronaldo's lavish "introduction", many of whom even broke out of jail to witness, it appears soccer may have finally found a place of importance in Madrid.

80K people to see a guy introduced in a uniform? And people call SEC fans stupid for showing up 80K strong at a spring football game. The Spanish must have a lot of free time on their hands.

It’s amazing. That’s like A-Rod’s first Yankee press conference being at Giants Stadium. A completely packed Giants Stadium.

Most of those 80k are female teenagers who are in love with Ronaldo. They have nothing to do with football itself.

I doubt that Real would earn back the money spent for those mega stars.

Ronaldo is more than a soccer player is a brand and Real takes advantage of this to earn back its money. I think is a good business for the team and also is a gain for the game.

They probably earned back a good chunk of that 80M just in tickets to his “unveiling”. They should do one every day.
